Akulivak
Did you know that Akulivik…
Is named for its unique geography which resembles the centre prong of a kakivak or traditional spear head used for fishing
Sits on a peninsula which juts into Hudson’s Bay
Has been an important hunting ground for Inuit for thousands of years
Was built on the former site of a HBC trading post which was established in 1922
Wasn’t officially incorporated until 1976, after several families that had set up summer camps in the area for generations decided to permanently settle in the area
