Kangirsuk
Did you know that Kangirsuk…
Means “the bay” in Inuktitut and is so named for its position on the north shore of Payne Bay
Is one of the smallest communities in Nunavik, with just under 500 people
Is partially surrounded by a rock cliff to the north and a large craggy hill to the west
Is very near the archeological remains of what is thought to be the stone foundation of a Viking long-house constructed in the 11th century
Is located in an area rich in nickel, iron and possibly diamond deposits
