Umiujaq

Did you know that Umiujaq…

Is situated at the foot of a hill that resembles an overturned umiaq or traditional skin boat

Was officially established in 1986 after people from Kuujjuarapik (just 160km south of Umiujaq) relocated to the area so as not to be affected by the James Bay Hydro Electric Project

Is home to the second largest fresh water lake (Clearwater Lake) in Quebec

Is located in a transitional zone of coniferous forests and open tundra

Is just east of a string of lakes that are home to the only known population of freshwater harbour seals
